Bringing You Good News and Shelter For Your Heart

Speaking of your heart, how is it? Are you feeling the weight of the world every time you open your phone and scroll through social media? Do the latest news headlines give you the sense that you should just cancel today and try again tomorrow? You’re not alone, to some degree, we are all in the same boat. We are more connected to the world and events in it than any time throughout history, but in many ways it leaves us more isolated and alone than we’ve ever been. You can tap on glass and find out what’s going on in a different hemisphere within seconds, but when is the last time you had a meaningful conversation with your next door neighbor? Political turmoil is leaving us more polarized and fearful of offending than we’ve ever been. We forget that the people we walk by in the grocery store are just as human as we are – capable of the mistake of hurting our feelings, but equipped with the capacity (and need) to see past differences and build relationships and community.

We Have a Community For you

Stories of Shelter is built to provide a safe place for you to connect with peers, fill up your soul when the world seems to drain it, but most importantly, we’re here to build community on the basis of mutual ground. No matter your political preferences, whether you’re a tea or coffee drinker, prefer classical music over punk rock, or you just don’t believe in cable TV — we recognize that you are a child of God. As His children, we are designed with an innate need for community. Yes, even introverts need friends sometimes.

Hebrews 10:24-25 says, “and let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.”

In this community, we hope you find a place where your soul can be filled with real interactions and stories of people being kind and good to each other. We also hope you discover spiritual resources that will help you find comfort in the ultimate shelter – the heart of Jesus. His goodness and grace are the best soil to cultivate meaning and purpose in life and community. After all, Jesus kept company with some of the most diverse in his society, who better to learn from in our present day?

Spiritual Resources From Our Own Diversity

On this platform, we hope to provide you with opportunities to learn from people just like you – as well as people who couldn’t be more different. Stories of Shelter offers insights and experiences from different professional, social, generational, and spiritual backgrounds. Our goal is to provide diverse perspectives that draw us closer together as a community while filling hearts and minds. Our classroom resources provide different insights and viewpoints that will make you more empathetic and able to reach across differences to connect with the people around you. Our mission is to give you the tools you need to limit the doom scrolling and to get uncomfortable in the best ways – to have a meaningful conversation with that neighbor or coworker. Our hope is that by finding shelter here, you will eventually become a person of shelter yourself. We want to inspire people in our community to open their hearts and dinner tables to others who may come from completely different backgrounds, to be the hands and feet of Jesus. So, welcome! We’re glad you’re here!
